Heil Air Conditioner & Generac Generator Installation In Hampton NJ
As the peak of the summer season hit in Hampton NJ, the Chase family noticed that their home felt hot and sticky during the day. They would compensate for their discomfort by cranking down the thermostat, resulting in astronomical energy bills at the end of the month. They decided to call Skylands Energy because they wanted to find out what home comfort options were available.
One of our seasoned HVAC technicians, George Lauck, inspected their air conditioning system. He determined that their Lennox AC was installed in 1984. Therefore, it had been used far past its expected lifespan. An old and outdated air conditioner does not perform well. It creates comfort issues and uses excessive amounts of energy. Also, their old unit was using R-22 refrigerant. R-22 has been phased out by the US Government due to environmental issues. New AC systems use an environmentally friendly R-401A substitute.
George recommended a Heil (HSA648GKA) 4-Ton air conditioner installation for the Chase family home in Hampton, NJ.
Additionally, during George’s visit, the Chases indicated a backup generator was of interest. Last winter, they were forced to move out of their home for almost two weeks due to a power outage caused by a snowstorm. This was expensive and highly inconvenient for them. We installed a Generac whole house generator for them.
Problem: The Chase family was using an old 34-year old Lennox air conditioner. It did not provide a comfortable environment and they were paying outrageous energy bills. Also, they wanted a solution for power outages that they recently experienced in Hampton.
Solution: Skylands Energy installed a Heil (HSA648GKA) 4-Ton air conditioner and a Generac 22 kW Guardian® Series home standby generator in their Hampton, NJ home.
Skylands Energy is proud to partner with Heil, one of the most prestigious manufacturers of heating and cooling equipment in the industry. We highly recommend these systems because they are reliable and can deliver a high level of comfort.
Old units lose their efficiency as they age. Since our homeowner was using such an outdated AC unit, they were paying high energy costs. Also, air conditioners that were manufactured back in 1984m like theirs was, had to have a minimum of a 7 SEER rating. Today, the minimum requirement is a 13 SEER rating, almost twice what it was back then. Therefore, not only will they pay less for their cooling costs but they will feel much more comfortable in the process. Some additional features of the Chase’s new Heil air conditioner are:
16-SEER rating
5-Year Limited Warranty or, with timely registration, 5-Year Limited Warranty (Includes Compressor and Coil), Can get an additional 5-Year
Warranty (Including Compressor and Coil)
Coated Inlet Grille with 3/8″ spacing for added protection
UL Listed and AHRI Certified
Has galvanized steel with High gloss powder coat finish that is baked on
Environmentally friendly-uses R-410a refrigerant
Post-painted coil fins
Coated, weather-resistant cabinet screws
Corner Posts For Extra Strength and Style
Easy to service with only two screws to access control panel
This air conditioner is built to last. It will provide the Chase family with cool, conditioned air for many years to come. Also, since they have upgraded from using a 34-year old unit to a new and modern AC system, they will pay less for their cooling costs, increasing their home’s energy efficiency. Overall, it is a win-win situation.
Generac 22 kW Guardian® Series Home Standby Generator
Since our homeowners live in an area that is known for frequent power outages, they were interested in finding out more about a whole house generator. This past winter, they had to move out of their house due to the fact that their home was without power for more than two weeks time. They did not want to face a situation like that again.
We provided them with an estimate that they accepted. We installed a Generac 22 kW Guardian® Series home standby generator in their home. This backup generator would supply enough power to keep their whole house running without any issues.
Generac generators are the best in the industry. It has the lowest cost per kilowatt when compared to any other standby generator on the market. Therefore, it is highly energy efficient. Furthermore, they perform reliably so that you never experience any power interruptions. Other features that this model offers are:
True Power™ Technology to protect all of the electronics in your home
5 -year warranty
Built in the USA
G-Force Engine-for reliable performance
Quiet operation ensured by Quiet-Test™ Self-Test Mode
RhinoCoat™ powder-coated finish to prevent rust and corrosion
Mobile Link™ Remote Monitoring so that you can control your generator remotely
The Chase family will not have to experience the inconvenience of going without power again. They can live comfortably in their home in any type of weather. Furthermore, by installing a backup generator, they have increased the property value of their home.
Signs That You Need An Air Conditioner Replacement
The air conditioning system in your home is one of the most expensive appliances. Because of this, you want to get the most out of it. Unfortunately, regardless of how well-maintained your HVAC system is, eventually, you are going to need to replace it.
Air conditioning systems don’t last forever. If you have an old or damaged AC system, it can cause issues. Your energy bills will increase. Also, when your air conditioner is not working correctly, it creates poor indoor air quality. If you are questioning whether it is time to replace your AC, there are a few signs that you should look for. These signs will tell you if it is time to replace your cooling system or not.
Your AC System Is Over 10 Years Old
According to the Department of Energy, you should have your HVAC system replaced every 10 to 15 years. While modern air conditioners are durable, the unit’s components can wear out and deteriorate after a while. This aspect is true, regardless of how often you use and maintain the system. If your unit is over 10 years old, it is time to start considering a replacement.
Also, if your unit is over a decade, there is a good chance that it uses a refrigerant called R-22. This type of refrigerant is outdated and, currently, it is being phased out by the government as it poses a threat to the environment. It is no longer in production and, therefore, supplies of R-22 are dwindling. If you need to have your AC repaired, the tech may not be able to find the R-22 refrigerant. If they can get their hands on it, the cost will be very expensive. This is a significant reason to have your AC replaced.
Is The Repair Cost More Than Half The Cost Of A New AC?
If you cannot decide whether you should repair or replace your air conditioning system and it is over 10 years old, you should consider the cost to fix the unit. From time to time, all AC units are going to need some sort of repair. If the cost of your necessary repair is going to be half the cost of replacing the AC, you should consider investing in a new one. Repair costs this high are not worth it.
You Find That Your Energy Bills Are Increasing
Your energy costs are going to fluctuate based on the season. However, your energy bill should be similar during the same month of different years. If you look at your statement from this July and the bill from last July and they are entirely different, you should consider replacing your unit. As HVAC systems age, they become less efficient. When the system is not running efficiently, it will need to work harder, which will cause your energy bills to increase. This can be even more problematic if you don’t have your system serviced and maintained annually.
While maintaining your AC system is important, eventually, it will stop running efficiently. If the system is old and your energy bills are increasing, you should consider a replacement. If you upgrade to a high-efficiency air conditioner, it can reduce your bills by up to 20 percent.
Your Home Feels Uncomfortable
When your air conditioner is getting old, it can be challenging to keep your home at a comfortable, even temperature from one room to another. If the temperature in your home is inconsistent, it usually means that your AC unit is not powerful enough to supply cold air to the entire house. It could also mean that your ductwork was not installed correctly. Either way, if you don’t do something about the problem, your home wouldn’t be as uncomfortable as you would like it to be.
It is essential to understand that all homes have their own unique needs. All air conditioners are not created equal, and the best unit for your home would depend on the size of the house, the layout, the location of the home, and more. Also, the climate has changed, where summers have grown increasingly warmer. The old AC size in your home now may not be the correct size to compensate for these environmental changes.
You Have Noticed More Dust In the Home Than Usual
If you have been keeping up with your housework, and you find that your house is dustier than usual, your air conditioning could be the reason. While your home’s HVAC system is responsible for keeping your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer, it is also responsible for providing proper ventilation.
If the system is running as efficiently as possible, it will improve the quality of the air by removing the dust, dirt, dander, and debris from the air. It should also keep the humidity levels in the home under control. If you find that your house is dustier than usual and you haven’t changed your cleaning schedule, your HVAC system may not be running efficiently enough to remove the dust from the home. This is a sign that it may be time to replace the system.
Unusual Smells
If you notice a strange smell when you turn on the HVAC system, it could be cause for concern. If it is the first time your turn on the unit in a while, it could just be dust burning off. In some cases, however, it could be the wiring overheating and melting. It could also be mold in the ducts. This can be dangerous to the air quality in the home. If you notice a strange odor, it is best to contact a professional to have the unit inspected.
Odd Sounds
If your AC system is well maintained and running correctly, it should be relatively quiet when it is running. If you have an older unit or if there is something wrong with it, you could hear strange sounds such as grinding or squealing. In some cases, you merely need to have the internal components of the unit lubricated during a regular maintenance visit. In other cases, the sounds could be a sign that the internal parts are defective. To be on the safe side, you should contact a professional as soon as you hear the noise. If the sound is due to a malfunction, it usually gets worse over time.
Poor Air Quality
During the summer, your air conditioner is responsible for controlling the indoor air quality in your home. If you notice mold, dust, mildew, or high humidity levels, you should have your unit checked.
Conclusion
If you notice any of the above issues with your HVAC system, you should contact Skylands Energy. Our techs can let you know if your best option is a repair or a replacement. If you live in an area where the power goes out frequently, you should consider a whole home generator. A generator will ensure that you will never go without power, even in the worst of weather. If the power goes out due to severe weather or a car accident, the home will switch from grid electricity to generator power. With a whole home generator, you will never be in the dark.
Should I Purchase A Whole Home Generator?
In New Jersey, there is always a chance that the power will go out. Whether it is a snowstorm, a thunderstorm, or a hurricane, your power can go out. A power outage can be inconvenient; however, for some people, a power outage can be life-threatening. If you rely on medical equipment such as a dialysis machine or a CPAP machine for sleep apnea, a whole home generator is a must just in case you lose power. If you or someone in your home uses oxygen, losing power for hours can cause serious problems. If you have a baby and you have a whole home generator, you will be able to warm the bottles during a power outage. Finally, if you lose power in the middle of August when it is over 90 degrees outside, a whole home generator will run your AC, keeping the house comfortable.
Which Type Of Generator Should I Choose?
There are two types of generators to choose from. You can go with a portable generator or a whole house generator that is permanently installed. While an entire house generator costs more than a portable one, it has more benefits than a portable generator.
Whole home generators run on natural gas or propane. Therefore, there is no need to store gas the way you would with a portable generator.
A backup generator is permanently wired to your home. This means you won’t need to worry about running extension cords around the house.
A whole home generator will turn on automatically. As soon as the power goes out, it will power on. It will turn on even if you aren’t home.
The whole house generator is fully enclosed. Therefore, the noise level is about 62-67 dBA. A portable generator can make a lot of noise, as high as 80 dBA.
The size of the whole home generator that you would need would depend on the size of your house and the things that you will need to run when the power goes out. Most homes run dozens of electrical appliances at the same time. It is essential that you have the correct size so that it meets the needs of your home.
Unlike a portable generator, a whole home generator is a permanent fixture of your home. It is designed to turn on automatically within 10 to 30 seconds after you lose power. When the power has been restored, the generator will register it, and it will shut itself down. Most whole home generators even have a weekly exercise function. This will ensure that the unit will be operating correctly each time you need it.
Does A Whole Home Generator Require Maintenance?
All generators require maintenance to run properly. It is recommended that a whole home generator is serviced after 250 hours of use or at least once a year.
Peace Of Mind
There are plenty of benefits to a whole home generator. The main benefit is that you and your family won’t be inconvenienced or uncomfortable during a power outage. A few other benefits include:
A whole home generator can save you money by preventing loss or damage to your home during a long power outage. There are a few ways one of these generators can save you money in the long run:
Prevent long stays at expensive hotels. This aspect can save you hundreds, even thousands of dollars.
Keep your water heater running during the cold weather which will prevent frozen and burst pipes.
Keep your refrigerator running so you won’t need to worry about replacing food that has spoiled during the outage.
Stay in the comfort of your own home during a power outage.
Eliminate the costly repair and cleanup if your sump pump overflows.
If you have a well, it will keep the water flowing correctly.
It will keep your home security system powered up when the power goes out, keeping intruders at bay.

Larry Reynolds arrived right on time and performed a "Routine Maintenance" on my E.K. boiler. Larry is very knowledgable He answered all our questions, before, during and after his work was done. His work was complete, thorough and timely. He was EXCELLENT! I would like to request his services the next time we're due for additional work.
Not related to Larry:
I feel the only drawback was the effort required of me to make a request for service and the time between my request and the scheduled service.
