Bradford White Water Heater Installation In Raritan NJ
The Sohnen family came home after work to find their Arrow water heater leaking on their basement floor. To find a solution to their problem, they called Skylands Energy. We immediately dispatched one of our expert plumbers to assess their situation.
When we arrived at their home, we determined that their water heater was unrepairable. Our recommendation was a water heater replacement for their Raritan NJ home.

Signs You Need A Water Heater Replacement
Most people depend on warm, running water in their everyday lives. You need warm water for showers, baths, and for cooking. The average person turns on the hot water at different temperatures up to 20 times a day. When you multiply this usage by the number of family members who live in the home, it gives you a good idea of the how vital your water heater actually is.
Age
Since water heaters don’t last forever, you are bound to start noticing signs that your water heater needs to be replaced. The failure could be due to the age of the water heater or the strain put on it due to the usage. Typically, you can expect your water heater to last about 10 years. While regular water heater maintenance can increase its lifespan, you will need to replace it after about 10 years. If you don’t want to be left without water for an extended period of time, you should be able to recognize the signs that indicate that it is time to replace your water heater.
Signs It’s Time to Replace Your Water Heater
As mentioned above, water heaters last between 8 and 10 years. While 10 years is the maximum lifespan for most water heaters, there is a chance that it will need to be replaced before 10 years. The water heater should be replaced before it reaches 10 years old if it shows any of the following symptoms:
Failure to heat the water properly
Leaks
Odd noises
A shorter life
Look for the following 10 signs:
When you have no idea when your water heater was replaced last, you might want to consider a replacement. If you have been living in your home for 10 years and you never replaced the water heater, it might be time.
Does your hot water appear to be rusty? If so, you should consider replacing the water heater.
If you turn on the hot water and it comes out cold, it could be that the pilot light is out. It could also be due to a tripped circuit breaker. If neither of these issues has occurred, the water heater may have reached its maximum lifespan.
When your hot water is coming out muddy or sandy, it could mean that sediment has built up in the tank. In some cases, draining the contents of the tank will solve the problem. In more severe cases, you will need to replace your water heater.
If you turn on the hot water and it has a metallic smell or taste, it could mean that the inside of your water tank is rusting and breaking down. When the grit and rust flakes on the inside of the tank combine with the water, the water won’t be safe for use.
If you turn on the hot water and it is only coming out warm, the heating element in the unit may be burning out. Start by making sure that your thermostat has been set between 120 and 140 degrees. If it is and the water still won’t get hot, it is time to replace the water heater.
How often do you use hot water in your home? For example, if you have a family of 6 who uses hot water, your unit will burn out faster than if you are living alone. The more people using the hot water, the faster the water heater will need to work.
Strange noises coming from the water heater can mean that it needs to be replaced. If you hear pops or loud cracks, it could mean that the heating elements have a mineral buildup.
If you are calling a professional for frequent repairs, you may need to replace the unit. Frequent breakdowns are a common sign that the water heater has reached its maximum lifespan.
Leaks are very serious issues in water heaters. If you notice that there is water pooling around the water heater, it means that the inner tank has worn out. Slow drips can become serious leaks very quickly. If the tank fails and leaks, it can result in a very damaging flood.
